In third grade, artwork from both imagination and observation is encouraged. Students continue to develop design skills while focusing on creativity. Interdisciplinary connections are made with literature, math, and history. Students begin to work with clay and glazes to create animals, and continue to explore techniques and art materials.

 

Artists students learn about are: Georgia O’Keeffe, Maurice Sendak, M.C. Escher, Frank Lloyd Wright

Closer View/ O’Keefe

We studied the artist Georgia O’Keefe, and saw how she used close-up views to create interesting paintings. We looked at flowers and shells close up to find details, then we drew our own close up pictures and used oil pastel to add color.
